What to pack for a Vegas vacation to walk on the Strip

We love to visit the casinos and resorts up and down the Vegas Strip. You’ll definitely get your steps in, so comfy shoes are key.

Boots for walking the Vegas Strip

I’m usually in Vegas over the winter, so I pack my trusty black leather low-heeled walking boots. Our weather experience has been dry and cool. But a winter night in the desert is particularly cold, so walking boots are great for nights out.

Tip for frequent travelers: get TSA Precheck so that you don’t have to remove your shoes in the security line. Wear your boots on the plane for your flight to Vegas. That way they don’t take up extra room in your suitcase.

I snatched up my own black leather walking boots at my local consignment store (lots of stylish finds!).

Below are some similar pairs:

Plus, they are stylish enough to wear with dresses or skirts for dinners out.

In Vegas in the winter, I love to pair my boots with my velvety soft warm black leggings. And embarrassing confession: the stretchy waist makes them great pants to wear to a Vegas buffet!

Shoes for walking the Vegas Strip

We have visited Vegas in the summer and – oh my – the heat! Walking the Vegas Strip means lots of hot concrete under your feet.

The trick here is to pack multiple pairs of shoes that you can switch out over the course of the day. I’m talking at least three shoes changes per day.

This is my go-to method for keeping my feet cool and comfy. I’ve done so in Vegas, San Juan, the Bahamas, Bermuda, Orlando, the Gulf Coast of Florida – if there’s a hot place to vacation, I’ll be there – with three pairs of shoes!

Here’s what I pack for my Vegas vacations to walk the Strip in the summer:

  • 1 pair of slip-on walking shoes
  • 2 pairs of sandals

I belong to a MyVegas group on Facebook, and a member asked us ladies which shoes were our favorite for walking on the Strip. These Skechers Go Walk shoes were the hands-down favorite by a landslide.

I also pack two very well-broken-in pairs of sandals to switch out over the course of the day. You’ve got to wear them tons at home before you hit the Strip with them. Vegas is not the place to be breaking in new sandals. Trust me, and avoid the blisters.

Speaking of sandals, you’ll want your toenails looking their best. I want to give a shout-out to Zoya, my favorite brand of nail polish. It is a brand with a “Big 10 Free” formula. This means it is without 10 yucky chemicals that can be found in other nail polish brands!

I discovered Zoya  when I was getting a pedicure at a lovely day spa near Bradenton Beach. It is the only brand that the salon uses, and after seeing the great wear I got from that pedicure, I could see why.

Zoya comes in 400 colors, most of which are women’s names. So Zoya nail polish also makes for a cute gift if I find a name that matches a friend’s. They even have a “Dana” color for me!

There’s just something that feels very Vegas-y and vacation-y about pushing that button on the slot machine with a polished nail. So I pack Zoya nail polish for my Vegas pedicure and manicure both. It’s a winner!

Padded socks for walking the Vegas Strip

No matter the season, you need to give your feet some cushion on the Vegas Strip. It is a lot of concrete. So I show my feet some love with padded cushioned socks.

In the winter I wear cushioned knee-high socks in my black leather walking boots. And in the summer I’ll slip on padded sock liners or ankle socks for my walking shoes. (I get a lot of wear out of my padded socks in addition to Vegas – on hikes, city tours, and cruise excursions.)

Your tootsies will thank you.

What to pack for a Vegas vacation of drinking adult beverages

Sometimes we are in Vegas for my husband’s job, and he enjoys having a cold beer in the hotel room after a long day on his feet at the convention center.

So we pack a cooler that is a shoulder bag. He fits the cooler inside his suitcase and puts clothes inside the cooler to pack efficiently.

The cooler that we chose has a removable hard plastic liner. It acts as an ice bucket in our hotel room and is quick and easy to dry.

Ours is similar to the ones below:

Our shoulder bag cooler also saves us the cost of buying all of our drinks at the bars. We walk to the nearby CVS (there are several along the Strip, right on Las Vegas Blvd.) to buy alcohol. We purchase beer for my husband and some gluten-free options for me. Then I can relax in the hotel room with a hard cider or seltzer. Nice!

What to pack for a Vegas vacation to save money on meals

I love to save money on some of my meals in Vegas so that I can splurge on others. Check out my full article on how I save money on meals in Vegas. It also has a Packing List just for items to keep in your hotel room for snacks and light lunches. Then you can splurge on a big dinner out!

I’m also a big tea drinker and don’t want to be running around finding hot tea to bring back to my hotel room. That’s why my electric kettle makes every trip to Vegas with me!

What to pack for a Vegas vacation to relax in your resort’s hotel room

I enjoy relaxing with a good book, so I always travel with my Kindle. I load it with books from my local library (using my library’s Overdrive website or app). While I’m giving myself a rest in the hotel room, I snuggle into those fantastic piles of resort pillows with a good read.

Below is the latest version that has some better features than my current Kindle:

What also makes my hotel room experience more relaxing is a small item that makes a big difference to me. One of my pet peeves about hotel room and cruise ship bathrooms is that they only have those glaring overhead lights. Not what I want to deal with if I’ve just woken up. So I always pack a battery-powered tea light to keep in the bathroom as an easy night light.

What to pack for a Vegas vacation that you’ll need after a late night out

In addition to enjoying hot morning tea in my jammies, I may need more than a caffeine boost if we’ve been out late. I like to use Emergen-c products when I travel for the immune support and electrolytes.

In fact, I always take Emergen-c the days when I’m boarding an airplane. It seems to help keep me from picking up germs. So I always have some packed in my carry-on for the return flight.

Whether you’re in Vegas for a quick weekend getaway or week of fun, I hope my Packing List has helped you prepare.
